This course is scheduled as a one-week multi-day camp or as 4 to 6 weeks series of individual 2 hour to 4 hour sessions focusing on what we eat, how we eat as well as movement and behaviors that support a positive attitude about healthy lifestyle choices. Participants will learn and practice LEAN (lifestyle, exercise, attitude and nutrition) HABITS for health, social skills and well-being. Healthy meals/snacks will be child prepared each day along with lessons exploring basic nutrition concepts and food literacy (nutritional value), food preparation and safety, cleanliness, table manners, the art of conversation and fitness activities.
Great for all ages to be better prepared to make healthier choices at school, afterschool and when away from home. Personal apron and reference materials included. Targeted age groups: 7 - 10; 11-14 and 15-17. Scheduled at our site in Allen or on location as a private class for groups (contact us for pricing details) and periodically scheduled in Plano at Oak Point Center.
Every day/session involves one or two segments of 45 minutes of physical activity AND preparing a healthy snack or meal. Participants will also learn and experience the following:
- Understanding Food Groups & Portions, Trying New/Different Fruits & Veggies - Healthy Snacks, Smart Food Choices, Understanding Food Labels - Food Preparation Techniques & Safety (pairing knives, corer, peelers, etc.) - Importance of Fitness, General Biomechanics, Positive Health & Lifestyle Habits - Table Manners & Eating Difficult Foods - Body Language, Unattractive Personal Habits & Behavior - Grooming, Poise, Posture, Cleanliness & Germ Busting Tactics to do Everyday - Common Courtesies, Conversation & Telephone Manners, Invitations, RSVP, Gifts & Thank You Notes - Social Occasions & Entertaining: Being a Good Guest & Host
