Lifestyle Education

Your health, behavior and appearance is a reflection of your way of life and will often determine the impression you make.  Developing healthy lifestyle habits involve making smart, positive choices and simple modifcations that can continuosly enhance your overall well-being for a happy, healthy you!

In today's society, there is also alot of focus on food and eating out, often involving nutrient-poor choices that tend to put a strain on our general health, healthcare costs, work and school schedules in addition to expanding the waistline.  We believe long-term fitness and good health is absent of quick-fix and short-term weight loss gimmicks.  We believe that living well requires lifestyle choices that support a healthy mind and body with good, sound nutrition along with physical activity that is enjoyable for a lifetime.  Both nutrition and exercise are key to effective weight management and wellness...that's basic to human physiology!

Keeping yourself and family healthy can seem challenging, whether it is confusing nutrition information or time and budget constraints.  We provide simple, easy to implement tools for anyone wanting to make healthier choices!  Our services are designed to compliment your lifestyle by empowering you with the gift of knowledge from a 'healthy living' point of view that is natural and can be sustained over time.  We provide nutrition and cooking classes/ workshops for individuals, families and groups that focus on making healthy choices to help you eat well, live better and build confidence in the kitchen, when dining out and at the table - more info.  We also offer a series of classes for youth focused on nutrition, preparing healthy foods and fitness - more info.

L.E.A.N. START is for parents or caregivers of children ages 3-12 and available an in-person workshop series or online as a coach facilitated e-learning program.  Prime-Time Health is a scientifically proven "lifestyle" plan for feeling young and living longer. While this program is for all audiences, it focuses on three specific audiences: those in their late 30's or early 40's who are in the "prevent mind-set"; prime-timers 50+ years of age that are in the "repair mode"; and young parents who want to give the gift of health to their own parents.

STEPS TO BETTER HEALTH

Maybe you've heard the recent guidelines about walking 10,000 steps per day.  Adding steps has many health benefits:  cardiovascular endurance, weight loss, increased energy, etc.   Studies suggest that walking 10,000 steps a day is enough activity for weight management.  With an increasing number of Americans having office jobs, long daily commutes and numerous demands on their time, many have fallen into a sedentary lifestyle.  For many living a sedentary lifestyle (just living and working), they may only walk 1,000-3,000 steps per day.  It is nearly impossible for us to get in 10,000 steps in a day without intentionally going out for a walk and/or engaging in other forms of exercise.

Exercise data indicates that people who go for 30-minute walks don't reach 10,000 steps per day, and walking a few thousand steps a few times per week just isn't enough to get you locked into a new fitness routine.  Also, when people commit to 60-minute walks, it's much easier to find an excuse not to do it, as it can be difficult to find such a large block of time together or it can seem like a daunting task.  However, add a 45-55 minute a dance/cardio interval activity to your weekly regimen and you'll reach you goal much quicker in a fun, yet challenging and creative way.....in addition to reaping the benefits of increased endurance and muscle tone.  So, you might wonder, how far is 10,000 steps anyway?  The average person's stride length is approximately 2.5 feet long.  That means it takes about 2,000 steps to walk one mile, and 10,000 steps is about 5 miles.  A reasonable goal for most people, is to increase average daily steps each week by 500 per day until they can easily average 10,000 steps per day.  By committing to walking 10,000 steps, you commit to creating and maintaining a healthier lifestyle.
