Cook This, Not That!

If you don't know how to cook a healthy meal or want fresh ideas that you can taste, then schedule a cooking class at home for your family and or friends.  Also, don't get rid of family recipes! Instead, consider letting Andy, a Certified L.E.A.N. Coach, show you simple alternatives you can substitute to transform a family favorite into a healthy family favorite with a Healthy Substitution Cooking Class or Recipe Revamp session! Cooking healthy doesn’t have to mean compromising great taste. Your family and friends will enjoy the taste of your healthier meals!  Based on availability, sessions may be scheduled Monday - Saturday...refer to schedule.

Pantry Makeover

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the task of going through your pantry to identify foods that may not be healthy for you and your family? If you are looking for a place to start, a fun, interactive Pantry Makeover with Andy, a Certified L.E.A.N. Coach, is a great place to begin! The Pantry Makeover is an extension option for those individuals/ families who have already attended a 6-hour L.E.A.N. • How to read a nutrition label
  • The simplicity of Traffic Light Eating
  • What foods that you may want to consider phasing out of your pantry
  • Insightful food preparation and shopping tips

COLLIN COUNTY FARMERS MARKETS

Allen - Watters Creek Farmers Market @ McDermott & Central Expressway
Fridays 9am to 2pm and Sundays 10am to 3pm, June through November
Four Seasons Markets opened this seasonal open-air market, based on the style of village markets popular throughout Europe, just this past summer in 2010 in a parking lot behind trendy Watter Creek shopping center.  The market is modeled after European markets where shoppers can meet local farmers, ranchers, specialty food producers, artisanal craftsmen and other local vendors.

Plano - Georgia's Farmers Market @ 916 15th Street
Mondays thru Saturdays 8am to 6pm and Sundays 9am to 5pm
Vic Woolsey has been running this market out of a converted car dealership just west of historic Downtown Plano for over 12 years (Georgia was the previous owner).  According to Woolsey, everything they carry, if at all possible, is homegrown.  Georgia's specialized in the standard fruits and vegetables but also offers 149 different nuts and trail mixes, a coffee club, tea, honey and real Dublin Dr Pepper.

McKinney - Historic McKinney Farmers Market at Adriatica, (Virginia Pkwy. & Adriatic Pkwy.)
Sundays 1pm to 4pm and Thursdays 11am to 7pm, last week of March thru October

McKinney - Historic McKinney Farmers Market at Chestnut Square, 315 S. Chestnut St.
Saturdays 8am to 12pm
The market is located in historic Chestnut Square, a few blocks southwest of McKinney's town square.  With its white picket fences and building dating back to 1854, Chestnut Square is a vivd reminder of days gone by.  Country and western music, magicians, the Lone Star Leprechauns and other entertainment add to the ambience.  Vendors offer produce, breads, jams and jellies, honey and Texas-raised meats.

Frisco - Frisco Farmers Market
Saturdays 8am to 1pm (earlier, if sold out) from May 1 or shortly thereafter - October 23 or so
Located at Frisco Square, just off the North Dallas Tollway near Pizza Hut Park
Founded in 2007 and operated by the Frisco Noon Lions Club to benefit the Frisco community, this Farmers Market is advertised as providing the "best produce and home-made goods in Frisco".  Vendors sell fresh fruits and vegetables of course, but also pasture-fed beef, pork and lamb, fresh eggs, pasta, seafood, baked breads, gourmet items and honey.
